TSI Engineering is the latest and fastest growing division from among TSI's three business divisions. We provide design and engineering services for Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) systems, for salt and minerals extraction and processing facilities, and for industrial and manufacturing plants. We have strong capabilities in delivering world-class engineering services, and we tap on our global network of engineering expertise and leverage on our experience in technology transfer and smart partnerships with international engineering firms which are at the top of their respective fields of specialization.

Design & Engineering of

  • Supply and maintainance of air-conditioning and ventilation engineering systems for industrial and manufacturing plants including:
    • Design/redesign of air-cond/ventilation systems, including using Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
    • Fabrication and assembly of air-cond/ventilation equipment such as condensers, air handling units (AHUs), air diffusers and air ducting systems

    • Chemical-physical process engineering for developing complete brine/ore processing plants, including process design, basic and detailed engineering and delivery of key equipment
    • Chemical-physical analytics including salt analysis and mineralogy
    • Waste management and backfilling technology

    • Feasibility studies

OUR HISTORY OF DELIVERING QUALITY ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS


The origins of TSI Engineering trace back to TSI's first major construction project in 2016 to repair and reconstruct severely leaking salt ponds in Shuaiba for a key client. In TSI's initial investigation of the causes of the Shuaiba pond leakage, it became apparent to us that not only was the original contractor for the project not employing the best pond construction techniques and material, but the original contractor was building the salt farms primarily from the limited perspective of the project being solely a construction project with little or no interface with the engineering aspects of the project. Recognising that salt farm development is not merely a construction project but also a brine mining project requiring salt and minerals extraction engineering, TSI took the initiative to source and bring in the brine mining engineering services that the project required, specifically by signing a partnership agreement with K-UTEC AG Salt Technologies, a Germany-based salt and minerals production process consultancy firm.


TSI's collaboration with K-UTEC brought to the Shuaiba project world-class mining planning and brine extraction processes design and engineering to complement the pond construction elements of the project. The collaboration of construction and engineering expertise from mining project evaluation to design and implementation allowed TSI to deliver a holistic salt farm development solution which turned the loss-making Shuaiba salt ponds profitable. When TSI was subsequently given the mandate to construct new salt ponds in the second phase of the client's salt farm project, the same construction and engineering collaboration was applied, and the resultant synergy enabled TSI to successfully deliver a salt farm operation with the highest ever seen yield harvest rates.

As TSI's mandate was broadened by the client beyond salt pond repair and construction to the construction of a new downstream salt refinery plant, it became apparent to us what a big challenge it is for the client to project-manage the construction project of constructing the factory building with the associated factory building subsystems and at the same time to project-manage the engineering project for the design and engineering of the salt manufacturing process within the industrial plant and the procurement, assembly, testing and commissioning of the requisite equipment and machinery. Tuning in to our client's need, we recognized that beyond having great concern for receiving quality in the final end-product in the form of a high-performing industrial plant, the client also seeks speedy delivery, which in turn calls for a turnkey full-service contractor and a total project manager who can ensure efficient and seamless interfacing between the two parts of the manufacturing plant puzzle, namely the construction of the factory building and the installation of the engineering support systems of the plant and the central engineering processes that form the heart of the processing plant.

Leveraging on our experience in forging international partnership in the construction and engineering of salt pond systems, TSI had again taken the initiative to source and bring in the plant and equipment engineering services that the project requires, specifically by forging partnership with
Ebner GmbH & Co. KG, a German plant and equipment engineering specialist, and subsequently with Alam Dingin Air Conditioning Engineering Sdn Bhd, a Malaysia-headquartered Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration (HVACR) engineering specialist, thereby bringing to the new salt refinery plant the best solutions in plant/equipment and HVACR engineering. All in all, the partnerships forged with top global companies like K-UTEC, Ebner and Alam Dingin enables TSI to bring to our Saudi clients not only the quality from world-class engineering technology, but also speed in engineering implementations for clients seeking engineering solutions for salt and minerals extraction and processing, plants and equipment and HVACR.

The formal establishment of TSI Engineering in 2021 as a separate division with dedicated engineering personnel had its beginnings back in 2016 when it was incubated within the TSI Construction division as a divisional function in response to construction project clients' preference to deal with master contractors able to provide the joint services of both construction and engineering services. Just as the joint services had provided synergistic benefits that enabled TSI to win construction projects with a substantial engineering element, similarly the joint services had also substantially enhanced TSI's engineering service offerings, which allowed TSI to win complex engineering projects such as one for a plant upgrade and expansion, which is primarily an engineering project that has a construction service element. The availability of in-house construction expertise supporting and working hand-in-hand with the engineering team fosters holistic planning, economies in project management as well as synergies in technical application and project implementation, ultimately giving the edge to TSI Engineering in producing higher quality results with a speedier delivery for our engineering clients.
